Our full service agency was formed at a time (1982!) when most companies had to use an advertising agency for advertising, PR consultants for public relations activity and graphic designers for everything else.

The partners who formed Publicity Services had already experienced the frustrations of dealing with multiple agencies from the client’s side:-

  • The challenge of ensuring that a promotional campaign was cohesive, with all elements (advertising, PR, literature and other marketing collateral) singing from the same sheet.
  • The need to give the same brief to several different agencies and hoping that they all understood it and stuck to it.
  • The failure of external suppliers to ‘but into’ the client’s ethos and form an effective partnership.
  • The tendency for each agency to push their speciality as a solution, rather than taking an holistic, multi-platform approach.

These problems were exacerbated by the technical nature of the products and the inability, or unwillingness, of agencies to understand the specification and buying motives of decision makers in the business to business arena.

So, Publicity Services was formed to provide an integrated approach to clients’ promotional requirements, a one-stop shop to which clients could bring their sales and marketing objectives and from which they could be assured of receiving marketing communications solutions that were designed to achieve them within their budgets and timescales, not solutions which favoured one particular type of promotional tool, or which would make the most money for the agency.

This full service marketing approach was coupled with the partners’ background in engineering and construction, which gave them a clear understanding of the technicalities of products, appreciation of the many ways in which the products can be selected, distributed and purchased, and the best methods of reaching the various target audiences which influenced these decisions.
